COLOR GUARD / WINTER GUARD

Description

The Cedarcrest High School Color Guard ("Guard") has been in existence since the Fall of 2006. Under the direction of Shelly Staples, this ensemble of 5 members strives to perform quality choreographed shows in the Winter season. In the Fall and Spring, the Guard augments the CHS Marching Band in field shows and parades. The goal of this ensemble is to offer highly skilled student-dancers the opportunity to interact with the CHS Music Department as an auxilary ensemble.

Membership Requirements

Many of this year's Guard members are CHS band/choir musicians. Students audition in May of each year. Students are mandated to be year-long members who committ to year long practices and performances.

Advisor

Shelly Staples, native of Utah State, is an energized and highly qualified musician and Guard Educator. She was a trumpet player who later found her passion in the Guard. Mrs. Staples taught Guard for several years in Utah to prominent midwest marching bands; she excels in rifles. The CHS Guard aspires to attract 15 future memebers who are energized, motivated, and committed to creating a quality ensemble that rivals area Guards throughout the Seattle region.
