Expectations and Goals

Students are required to set and achieve goals. These are necessary compenents to a positive, successful program. All CHS musicians are encouraged to set goals to become refined musicians. Cedarcrest builds dedicated, educated musicians who challenge themselves and each other in positive ways. Musical ensembles at Cedarcrest are safe places where students have fun while creating music of high quality.

Grading

Objective grading of student efforts and outcomes are based on daily participation, objective testing, and performances. Assignments and tests will be required. Listening tests, theory, history and overall musicianship are focal points to the music curriculum. Knowledge of the keyboard/individual instrument, staves, note names and rhythms are the building blocks that students will experience every class period.

Lettering

Students can earn the academic Music Letter in bands and choirs (see Letter Policy for details)  Band students must attend 75% of football games (Homecoming Field Show is mandatory) and 75% of basketball games. Choir students must perform the National Anthem at two home games (Basketall, football, volleyball, etc.).  All students must earn a 92% or higher on the proficiency exam. Students must also earn 150 Individual Letter Points in order to be eligable to letter. Students who desire to letter must be enrolled in band/choir all year.

Cedarcrest High School

Cedarcrest's mission is to prepare our students for the challenges of the future. This mission guides the development and implementation of all of the school’s programs and activities.
