GUITAR CLASS

 

Requirements: Acoustic guitar is required; pay a $15 course fee.

 

Description:

The class is limited to 30 students due to instrument storage restrictions. Students must provide their own acoustic guitar, purhase a class work book, and attend several out of class events. The Guitar Class is a fine arts elective (.5) credit where students learn basic instrument techniques, chord progressions, and musicianship skills. Students are offered many in-class performance opportunities throughout the semester. As well, students are required to attend local concerts and to perform in an "end-of-semester performance." This concert is a performance held before a live audience in an evening concert environment.

 

Each student must obtain the following materials for daily class use:

1. A six (6) string ACOUSTIC steel-string or classical guitar with protective case.

2. A three-ring binder notebook for DAILY NOTES and DAILY HAND-OUTS

3. A class work book for $15.00--Payable to the ASB Accounts Office

4. Guitar picks and one set of extra strings.

5. A pen/pencil & loose leaf paper in a 3-ring binder.

 

EXPECTATIONS:

1. Accept the responsibility for one's own instrument.

2. Respect diverse musical styles.

3. Learn to play a diverse variety of songs in a group and as a soloist.

4. Develop musical skills through listening, peer-tutoring and self-guided learning.

5. Consistently attend class sessions with appropriate materials.

6. Practice independently.

7. Maintain a positive attitude and get along with fellow musicians.

8. This class will cover more than the basics.

9. Prior knowledge of the "Guitar" is not necessary.

10. Develop a tight-knit group of peers who work together and have fun together.

11. Students will receive a grade of this Semester (18 week) Course.

12. Opportunities for in-class performances will be held on a weekly basis.

13. Attendance at (2) two concerts will be assigned.

14. A defined course assignment-syllabus will be given to each student; assignments are required.

15. Sign a “Course Contract” and “About Me Form”

 

 

VARIABLE DETAILS:

1. Locking instrument storage in the CHS Music Room (163) will be made available.

2. Strings and picks ARE NOT available through the instructor.

3. Bass guitars, banjos and the ukulele (pronounced: You-kuh-'lay-lee) are not currently course instruments, though will be mentioned and displayed in lecture.

4. Class size may be limited.

5. This class will be geared toward beginner and intermediate-level learners.

6. This class may or may not be offered both semesters.

7. Other electronic gear (pedals/amps/cords) is not necessary for DAILY sessions.
